Hender Scheme is a Japanese footwear, clothing, accessories and houseware brand founded by Ryo Kashiwazaki. Originally a philosophy student, Kashiwazaki was interested in designing beyond gender’s social and cultural expectations. Hender Scheme was founded shortly after Kashiwazaki studied leather craftsmanship under Tokyo’s shokunin masters.
In terms of materials, Hender Scheme uses raw, vegetable-tanned leather as their material of choice. This allows for the leather to age naturally and uniquely. Though the brand received recognition through reproducing popular mainstream sneakers in vegetable-tanned leather and hand-sewn, traditional construction, the brand’s offering has expanded and evolved to an expansive collection with a variety of categorical offerings.
