What at first glance appears simple, never is. Known for her innovative textiles and colour palette, KANAKO SAKAI puts a tremendous amount of research into each season and material. In her time between seasons, she travels throughout her native Japan, looking for tradtional techniques and fabrics that can be revived or reinterpreted. One season this was a technique of weaving with nacre; for another it was hammering silver into a fabric. The shapes on the other hand, meld Western and Eastern taste, to create something new and wearable.
