Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil and raised in Los Angeles, Silvia Song is a Bay Area architect turned artist and designer. Her work is devoted to simplicity, discovering forms that marry both function and beauty. Matching her aesthetic to a steady hand, Song turns the rough maple wood on a lathe into smooth sculptural “Objects”, minimally named 1, 2 and 3. Composted indigo, called sukumo in Japanese, is combined with handmade lye water and fermented for 30 days to bring out the natural cultures that activate the indigo dye.
