Few mountains on earth carry the quiet power Mount Fuji possesses. Takashi Homma captures the elusive Mount Fuji in contemporary Japan in this stunning photography book.
Of the sixteen slopes in Tokyo once famed for Fuji-viewing a century ago, not one remains today. Instead, glimpses of the mountain are captured between buildings on a passing train or looming above convenience stores. Homma finds various ways to remind us that the so-called sacred symbol can be demystified and, in some instances does look the way the faithful always hope: serene above a lake or offering a sense of protection to the cities of the plain.
